As part of the activities to mark this year’s Earth Hour, Maldives Energy Authority (MEA) is organizing a two day Renewable Energy Exhibition at Hiriya School.
This event was organised upon request of Ministry of Housing and Environment (MHE) in close collaboration with Scout Association of Maldives (SAM) and State Electric Company Ltd (STELCO). This effort was further supported by Center for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Villa High School (VHS) and Hiriya School. Two private companies, Linear Tech Pvt Ltd and DELTA Services Pvt Ltd also took part in this event to showcase educational renewable energy models to students.
In this two day event, information regarding renewable energy especially solar PV systems and its application were given to students. Information was given by 20 higher secondary students selected from VHS and CHSE and trained specifically for this program by STELCO and MEA.
The exhibition began today at 2:00 p.m. in the afternoon. 50 students from each school in Male’ City were invited to this exhibition. Students and teachers from Majeedhiyya School, Galholhu Madhrasa, Dahrumavantha School, Madhrasathul Ahmadhiyya, Iskandar School and Hiriya School visited Hiriya School today to see the rooftop solar panels installed on roofs of Hiriya School and nearby Tajudheen School and Social Center. In addition to this, students were given information regarding the models displayed by Linear-tech, STELCO and Delta Services.
Exhibition was closed at 5:00 p.m. today and will continue tomorrow from 9:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. This year’s Earth Hour will be celebrated on Saturday March 31, 2012 from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. local time.
