Utility Regulatory Authority conducted information sessions in L. Gan focusing on its roles and responsibilities in regulating utility services. The sessions covered the regulatory framework for the energy, waste, water, and sewerage sectors. Participants were also briefed on permits and standards enforced by the Authority across the relevant sectors. In addition, discussions highlighted key sustainability practices applicable to utility services. The initiative aimed to improve public awareness and understanding of regulatory functions and sustainable resource management.

ERA has handed over drones to the Utility Regulatory Authority to enhance monitoring, inspection, and compliance of utility services.

A team of experts comprising of experts from Kansai Electric Power Company, Japan and Maldives Energy Authority visited the K.Dhiffushi Island on 13th April 2012 to gather first hand data required for the designing of Solar PV grid connected system at K.Dhiffushi Island.

Maldives Energy Authority (MEA) today commenced a program to inspect the power systems established in Maldives. The aim of the program is to bring the power systems up to the standards and regulations implemented by MEA.

Numbers of stakeholder meetings on developing a regulatory framework for the energy sector of the Maldives were conducted from 17-19th April 2012. The consultants hired under the technical assistance from World Bank, gave an update of the activities carried by them developing a regulatory frame work for the energy sector of the Maldives.

Staff of Maldives Energy Authority participated in the special Seminar on Procurement of Consulting Services and Goods held by Asian Development Bank at Traders Hotel Maldives, which lasted 2 days. Major Government bodies partook this seminar such as; Maldives Monetary Authority; Ministry of Finance and Treasury; Maldives Inland Revenue Authority; Office of Projects and Programs and FENAKA Corporation The seminar was presented by Mr. Bernhad R. Zentigrat. Mr. Bernhad who is an engineer and has been practicing Civil engineering most of his life, is an expert in the field of Procurement and Consultancy. In this seminar he lectured on the topic of bidding process and recruitment of consulting services.

Because of the increasing number of requests being received for the approval of installing generator sets to power buildings in Malé, the Maldives Energy Authority (MEA) is seeking ways to better regulate the standby power systems.

Deputy Director of Maldives Energy Authority, Mr. Ajwad Musthafa has participated as a speaker in the World Bank sponsored Energy Sector Management and Assistance Programme (ESMAP)’s Renewable Energy Resource Mapping Forum held in Washington DC, May 9, 2012.

Maldives participates in the subregional consultation meeting on “Energy Access and Energy Security: Prospects and Challenges for Regional Cooperation” held in New Delhi, 6-7 November 2012. Maldives is represented by the Deputy Director of Maldives Energy Authority, Mr. Ajwad Musthafa.

With the memorandum of understanding signed today, water quality monitoring will begin in rural areas other than the city. URA hopes to continue this work in other villages of Sri Lanka.
