New electricity tariff methodology presented to service providers
Maldives Energy Authority (MEA) organized a meeting to present the new draft electricity tariff methodology to electricity service providers on 13th August 2013. This meeting was held at STELCO and FENAKA head office. The consultant appointed by Asian Development Bank Mr. Jorge Bircher and MEA technical team participated as resource persons to answer queries from the service providers. While the whole economy and power sector in general has experienced major structural changes over the years, there has not been a tariff review to gauge the magnitude of these changes and its effect on the service providers and customers.
Tariff revision 2019
Maldives Energy Authority has reduced the electricity tariff and introduced a new fuel discount of 12 Laari per Unit on all Islands except for Male’, Hulhumale’ and Vilimale’.
Net Metering Regulation inaugurated
In order to facilitate the production of renewable energy by individual and private parties from a national level, “Net Metering Regulation” for connecting renewable energy systems to utility’s power grids has been inaugurated today. This is a step taken to encourage the public in utilizing the clean energy sources available in Maldives and to reduce dependence on imported fuels. The ceremony was inaugurated by the Minister of Environment and Energy Honorable Thoriq Ibrahim.

Solar PV experts team visits Dhiffushi island
A team of experts comprising of experts from Kansai Electric Power Company, Japan and Maldives Energy Authority visited the K.Dhiffushi Island on 13th April 2012 to gather first hand data required for the designing of Solar PV grid connected system at K.Dhiffushi Island.
